Something strange is going on in Brooklyn. A giant bread creature is poised to attack the city, aliens are living next door, a bear turns up missing, felt critters are walking & talking, and old people start hooking up on the internets. Maybe there's something funny in the water.

The Pratt Institute's Media Arts Department proudly presents the Traditional Animation thesis films of the graduating class of 2007, as well as selected shorts. Students will be in attendance for a Q&A to talk about their stop motion, 2-D computer animation, and hand-drawn films.

Free and open to the public, May 4th & 5th, 7pm at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater

Some paid work opportunity for you slacky workers <3

This is from Kalika:

independent animation seeks talented ink-and-painters for off-site work.

must be able to work from home (not school's computers, but home ones)
with wacom tablet, in flash 8. this is a film that will be
high-exposure when the time comes, but for now, people who aren't
working on it shouldn't see it.

pay is $8/hour, but since it can be done from home via FTP/email, the
hours are flexible. you'll get amazing experience painting this film:
it's a fairly loose style. you can work as little as 10 hours a week,
as much as 40.

interested artists would have to complete a short ink & paint test to
make sure their style matches that of the film.

contact Kalika if interested, kalikakharkar@gmail.com

thanks!

The DDA has Dan Haskett visiting

Just in case anyone was interested, Kat from CG was kind enough to send me this info:

Thursday March 8th E-2 @ 5p.m.

All Things Animation is an open forum between students and a leading
professional, Dan Haskett.
There will be a short presentation follow by a question and answer
period. Students are encouraged to come prepared with as many
insightful questions as possible in order to keep this discourse
informative and vibrant. This is a tremendous opportunity to tap into
the wealth of experience and professionalism that this speaker has to
offer from many areas such as animation, character design and
storyboarding.

Dan Haskett's Bio:

DAN HASKETT has been an animator, character designer and storyboard
artist since 1969. He designed "Ariel" for THE LITTLE MERMAID, and
"Belle" for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. He won an Emmy for his work on THE
SIMPSONS, and designed for TOY STORY and THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. He has
produced five cartoons for SESAME STREET, and designed commercials for
Ford, Kellogg's, General Mills, and Best Buy. As a consumer products
designer, he has created merchandise and character style guides for
Warner Bros., Disney and NBC Universal. He has served as an art
supervisor for Disney and Richard Williams, and as a lecturer at New
York University, DreamWorks Animation, and Nickelodeon.

Cosponsored by TAG and DDA.

make your own downshoot!

do you like to test your frames often?
or do you need instant gratifaction to satisfy your ADD or ADHD?
would you like to be able to multiply your animating/testing locations?
well i do. and thus i made my own custom home/portable-ish downshoot

it took me about an hour and a half, it cost me $0 because i used scraps at the woodshop and i had the clamps
i did it with the clamps because of the lack-of-space factor/i dont like extraneous material factor, and because i can hook the camera up to my computer and using istop motion see what it looks like immediately

mine, however is made specifically for my digital camera which is about the size of the cigarette box, which held there with a rubber band for sturdiness when pressing the shutter button...i put the camera face down in front of it...if i had another digi cam i would show you but you probably get it (the hole is for when the lens comes out of my camera and since there is a large cut out i can move it...duh)

if this seems like something you could use or want email me at danmountain@gmail.com and lemme know ill help you/make it for you/give you plans whatever its super easy

For Posterity

Pictures for the yearbook are due tomorrow so this is a little last-minute, but anyone want to do a group photo? We did it last year but it was mysteriously left out of the yearbook (I smell a conspiracy!) How about G-10 tomorrow at 12:30? Dress festively.

HELP WANTED ~ Looking for someone who can talk like LENNY BRUCE.

I am animating a character based on Lenny Bruce, and I intend to use dialogue. I don't know how to mimic his voice, even though it seems pretty simple. For those of you who don't know, Lenny Bruce was a controversial comedian in the 1960's, who was arrested numerous times for using obscene language in his comedy performances.

If anyone reading this can pull off the voice I am looking for, please respond in the comments section, or contact me (info below).

This is a cartoon I found on YouTube. It was done using a stand-up routine of Lenny Bruce's, with him voicing all the characters. The Sherriff character is what Lenny normally sounded like. You can find some other Lenny Bruce videos on YouTube.

An email from student activites

Dear Keyframe,
>
> My name is Amanda LaPlaca and I figured I would introduce myself. I am the
> new Student Government Associations Chair of Finance.
>
> I am writing this e-mail not just to make an introduction but to make your
> club/organization aware that there is no record of a 2006/2007 budget
allocation. I was curious if you are associated with Pratt Anime now and
that is your new club name, if so then just let me know.
> If you realize that you requested and recieved an approved budget
> please drop off a copy for me in Student Activites. You most definitely
would not want to forget about any money your club/organization can
claim and use. If you have any questions,
> feel free to e-mail myself or Mellissa (the Assistant Director of Student
