Something strange is going on in Brooklyn. A giant bread creature is poised to attack the city, aliens are living next door, a bear turns up missing, felt critters are walking & talking, and old people start hooking up on the internets. Maybe there's something funny in the water.

The Pratt Institute's Media Arts Department proudly presents the Traditional Animation thesis films of the graduating class of 2007, as well as selected shorts. Students will be in attendance for a Q&A to talk about their stop motion, 2-D computer animation, and hand-drawn films.

Free and open to the public, May 4th & 5th, 7pm at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater

Internship!

Hey there, folks!
I juts got this email from Signe Baumane. She's a big wheel in the independent animation community around here - I think it could be a fun and educational experience to be her intern!
-Fran

I am looking for an intern to help me with my new animated film "Birth" -
to scan in drawings, to assemble them in Photoshop and then to open them in Aftereffects.
Some computer skills are required, but not to excess -
I promise to teach those 2 -3 animation tricks I know
and maybe we can learn together?
The internship can start any time from today - and
it could be maybe 5 or more hours a week?
In return I promise free lunch, invitations to free screenings, nice parties and introduction to animation world the way I know it..
and YES - a very generous credit !!
If you know anyone who might be interested, please, pass it on !!!
My phone number is

CAL ARTS at MOMA, Saturday, June 24, 2:00PM: PIXAR class

I thought I would give another update on the CAL ARTS shows at the Museum of Modern Art.

This Saturday, they will be screening student work by the (years later to be) boys at Pixar. It runs for about an hour, and features student work by John Lasseter (see previous post), Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Joe Ranft (never forgotten).
It starts at 2:00PM. If anybody is interested in this, even though its relatively short, please respond.
(Sorry if these posts get a little annoying. I do apologize).

In the meantime, I just thought I'd post a video for fun. Since we're on the subject of voice overs (below), I thought I might post this. I already did a while back, but the link was lost. Enjoy.

TOMORROWLAND: CalArts at MOMA, this weekend!

For those of you who don't know, there has been something going on at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) recently.

They are celebrating Cal Arts's film and animation program. And during the course of the summer, they will be holding screenings of the student work by its most famous alumni. In fact, one of the screenings (coming June 24) is the student work of the boys over at PIXAR.

Here's a taste of what will be shown:

This weekend, they will be screening the work of the graduates from the 1980's. Among them are David Daniels (strata-cut inventor) and Chris Sanders (LILO AND STITCH master). For a complete list, check the site:

http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/film_media/2006/CalArts.html

This weekend, Animation and Experimentation: The 1980s.
Sunday, June 18, 1:00 PM.
I don't know how fast they will sell, but I am going to try and get there early enough for the screening tickets. Is anybody interested in going with me? Please post a response.

Go Long, Dash.

At Annecy

Hey Plummer, I just ran into someone named "Dawn Rivera-Ernster" in line for the student animation screening this morning, I guess she's from Disney and said you applied for your internship. I didn't tell her that you still need to finish your 40 second.

Also, Tim Burton is here. I'll try to get a lock of his hair for Alisa.

PIXAR DOCUMENTARY ~ TONIGHT ON ABC, 8:00 PM.

Thank God I found this article just in time. It was posted on the Luxo Blog. ABC will be showing TOY STORY tonight, and will be followed at 8:00 PM by a documentary on Pixar, produced by Leslie Iwerks, grand-daughter of Ub Iwerks. Here is a link.

Viva Kneivel

Okay, if I haven't asked you already:

Who would win in a Battle Royale:

Ninjas
Pirates
Zombies
Robots

When I get tired of asking random people who would win, I'll tally the scores to find out the winner. With the outcome decided, the animation can begin... maybe. The other idea that popped into my head is that as many who would like to could animate a shot each. or several, and they could all be edited together. Just brainstorming at this point. Could be nothing ever happens with it. Input?
